Hand Arm Vibration

In the UK, the Physical Agents (Vibration) Directive will be implemented by regulations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, which will be implemented by the 6th July 2005.

The Physical Agents (Vibration) Directive reduces the action level to a vector sum daily dose of 2.5m/s2 A (8) and disposes of the highest axis value. It also introduces a vector sum exposure limit value daily dose of 5m/s2 A (8), which must not be exceeded. The new directive requires employers to reduce exposures to a minimum, provide information and training, assess exposure levels and provide appropriate health surveillance when exposure reaches the action level.
